Chewy Bakery-Style Sugar Cookies
These chewy, drop-style sugar cookies require no chilling, so they're quick and easy to make, and always a favorite. Rolling them in sanding sugar before baking give them a bit of sparkle and a crunchy texture that everyone loves.

- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup butter softened
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 egg yolks
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 3/4 cup sanding sugar
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cream of tartar and salt.
In a large bowl, beat together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg yolks and vanilla and mix well.
Gradually add the flour, mixture mixing until just combined. Place the sanding sugar in a small bowl.
Roll dough into walnut sized balls, then roll the balls in the sanding sugar to coat. Place on prepared baking sheets, 2 inches apart.
Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are just golden. Do not overbake. Let cool on cookie sheet for 2-3 minutes before transferring cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.
